Coach

Bernie joined the A&C Academy in Fall 2015. Like all of our coaches, Bernie’s passion for inspiring and leading youth, combined with a wealth of experience playing the sport at a high level, makes her a great asset to our A&C Coaching Staff. Bernie comes to us with NCCP Level II Certification and currently adding NCCP Competition Development Certification.

Academy Coaching Experience

Bernie has been a Training Coach, Touring Team Coach and Local Tournament Coach. As a Coach and an Assistant Coach, she has been to all local tournaments, and travel tournaments, such as President’s Day Showcases, National Hockey Festivals, Shooting Star tournaments and Disney Showcases, between 2016 and 2019.

Field Hockey Playing Experience

Bernie is a lifelong athlete who’s playing career came to a sudden end after an injury in 1992 in the Olympics. Bernie played CIS field hockey at the University of Toronto from 1985 to 1989 with many accolades to her name, including: 3-time All-Canadian; 4-time CIAU (now CIS) Player of Game & Tournament All-Star; 4-time OWIAA (now OUA) Outdoor & Indoor All-Star; and 1989 athlete of the year.

From 1983 to 1992 Bernie played provincially and for the National Team in various age groups; obtained National Carding from 1986 to 1992; has 30 international caps; and competed in the 1991 Pan American Games in Cuba and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
